- Is a hardy bushy evergreen shrub with glossy, deep green, wavy ovate leaves 3-5cm in length and, in winter, inconspicuous, very sweetly scented, creamy-white flowers, followed by glossy black berries.
Cultivation: Grow in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained humus-rich soil in shade.
Full sun may be tolerated when planted in damp soil.
Also tolerant of atmospheric pollution, dry shade and neglect. Soil: Acid, Alkaline or Neutral. Moist but well-drained or well-drained. Chalk, Clay, Loam or Sand.
Aspect: All aspects. Sheltered.
Flowers: White in Winter.
Foliage: Dark Green. Fruits: Black in Summer.
