is a vigorous large deciduous or semi-evergreen climber with twining tendrils with simple or palmately-lobed leaves and showy flowers of distinctive structure, followed by conspicuous edible fruits. Leaves dark green, with 5-7 finger-like lobes. Flowers to 8cm in width, white, with blue and purple coronal filaments.
Fruits: 4cm, Orange in Autumn and Winter.
Flower: Blue, Purple and White in autumn and summer.
Size: Ultimate height 8-12 metres. Ultimate spread: 2.5-4 metres. Time to ultimate height: 5-10 years.
Supplied: In 2 litre black growers' pots on a 30cm bamboo cane.
Aspect: South-facing or West-facing, Sheltered. It will withstand cold temperatures down to 18-23°F (-5°C to -8°C) depending on the conditions.
Cultivation: Fast-growing climber for sun or partial shade, thrives in moist but well-drained soil. Water freely when in growth and keep just moist in winter.
In cold areas, grow in a container and overwinter indoors. Provide support for climbing stems and shelter from cold, drying winds.
