Oriental Green & Yellow Stem Bamboo Trees
Oriental Green & Yellow Stem Bamboos.
Phyllostachys vivax Inversa.
One of our favourite bamboos and the mother of Phyllostachys vivax Aureocaulis, therefore it has the same characteristics but instead of having yellow canes it has dark emerald canes with nice thick yellow stripes down the canes.
Is a tidy and upright with the foliage higher up the plant so showing the thick canes off to good effect. It makes an excellent specimen plant and is very hardy to -20oC when planted in the ground.
This variety puts all its energy in only a few stems per year so the stems it produces are very strong and tall, if you are looking for a bamboo that produced many stems please choose one of the other Phyllostachys types.
A very good bamboo to block out the neighbours above the fence line!
Easily reaches 4-5 metres tall with no pruning. In time, for example in the summer of the third year after planting the lower foliage and thin stems can be trimmed off to better show off the lovely stems. This in time encourages the plant to produce thicker stems.
If you wish to grow it in a container, a minimum of a half-barrel size will be needed. Water and feed well during the summer months.
Aspect: West or South facing. Sheltered out of the wind.
Suggested Plant Uses: Architectural, Hedging & Screening, Japanese gardens, Exotic foliage affect.
