Sasa palmata is a hardy small bamboo forming a thicket of erect stems bearing dark green leaves to 40cm in length, the tips and margins turning pale brown in winter, giving a variegated effect.
Cultivation: Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soils in full sun to deep shade. Tolerates most soil types, but not dry soils in full sun. Good for woodland planting.
Foliage: Dark Green and Pale Brown in Winter. Evergreen.
Pruning: Thin spent canes as required to improve appearance of plant.
Soil: Acid, Alkaline or Neutral. Moist but well-drained or well-drained. Clay, Loam or Sand.
Aspect: All aspects. Exposed or Sheltered.
